Commended

Tuesday 12th January 2010

I’ve just entered two pieces into a local exhibition here in Lancashire.  It is the Garstang Arts Centre Open Exhibition and a new one to me.  I’m pleased to say that I’ve been awarded a “Commended” (Runner up!) for “Sienna Gentleman” – my most recent coloured pencil on panel painting.  Originally started as a demonstration at The Cumberland Pencil Museum in September 2009 and largely completed during two days demonstrating on the UKCPS stand at the Art Materials Show at the NEC later in the autumn, it is a loose portrait of a lovely eighty year old gentleman that Lorry and I met in Sienna in 2008.  He and his wife are ceramicists and run one of the oldest established and best known “Majollica” shops in Sienna.

Malcolm, I remember this one from the NEC Art Materials Show. Great to see it finished, you have captured a lot of character in his face. Congrats on achieving the award – very well deserved.

Hi Janet. Somehow, I missed your comment. So – apologies for failing to reply. Thank you for posting! Kind regards, Malcolm.

  3. John Walker says:

    Hi Malcolm,

What a great result! I am chuffed for you too.

I will be looking out for this on my travels, and I might even buy a box of pencils!

    Again, well done.
    John

  4. Malcolm Cudmore says:

    Hi John,
Great to hear from you. The new pencils will not be in the shops until June – but I’ve had a sneak preview of the design and I can’t wait to see the finished packs!
    Kind regards,
    Malcolm
