New Limited Edition Prints added to shop!

Posted in General, News, Stuff on February 28th, 2010 by Malcolm Cudmore – Be the first to comment

havana-01I’ve now added some limited edition prints to my shop.  They are digitally manipulated from my own photographs taken in Bruges and Havana and printed on my own giclee printer (long-life pigment inks on hand made or fine art rag paper with additional UV protection).  Some of them are one-offs and will not be repeated (because the digital files have been deleted!).

I’d be really grateful for feedback about these images – which will help me to decide whether to increase or ammend the range.  I welcome your comments.

Update on Derwent Competition Win

Posted in Coloured Pencil, General, News on February 19th, 2010 by Malcolm Cudmore – Be the first to comment

I’ve had a fantastic amount of interest in my recent news.  In particular, Katherine Tyrell had a very thorough post on her Making a Mark site on Friday 12th February.  Derwent have now got the original drawing and are working on the final design ready for the new packs to be in the shops in June.  I’ve had an early, sneak preview – and can’t wait to see them when they’re ready!  Many thanks for all the e-mails of congratulations that I’ve received from friends, acquaintences and customers.

Derwent Artists Pencils Competition

Posted in Coloured Pencil, News on February 11th, 2010 by Malcolm Cudmore – 6 Comments

One of my coloured pencil drawings has been selected for use on the re-packaging of the Derwent Artists Pencil range!  I’m absolutely chuffed to bits!  This range of coloured pencils was introduced in the 1930s and, since 1938, there has always been an image of Ashness Bridge (near Derwent Water, Keswick) on the packaging.  Ashness Bridge offers a really typical English Lake District scene with the stone-built, single-track bridge crossing a tumbling stream as it wends its way down towards Derwent Water.

Ashness Bridge, Derwent Water, Keswick

In the New Year, Derwent announced that they were looking for a new image to be used in the re-packaging programme and, through their website, set up an open competition inviting drawings of the bridge that had been made using the product.  Although Derwent posted some images of the bridge for reference, I chose to drive up to the area to see for myself and take some reference photos.   Despite the mid-January cold, it was a really picturesque place and I can see why so many tourists and walkers include it in their visits to the area.  Looking downstream, from above the bridge, you can see right down to Derwent Water and this is a very popular view.  However, I was particularly struck by the quite dramatic view upstream from below the bridge and chose this angle for my drawing.

Derwent Artists Pencils are the leading UK manufactured brand.  Later this year, the new boxes of these pencils will be on sale around the world!  Woo hoo!

For CP enthusiasts, the original is on Canson Bristol board and A3 in size.  The pencils are artists’ quality and available in a full range of 120 colours.
